R&D Reporting

Version: As of version 16.03

Purpose

There are various Formula reports users can run to track where Parts are used. These reports can be useful to determine where a Raw Material is used on a Subassembly or Finished Good, as well as which Raw Materials and Subassemblies make up a Finished Good.

Security and Configuration

A Bill of Materials (BOM) will need to be setup for the Parts which will be used as the Formula for the Finished Good. Once this is in place, users can run the various types of BOM reports to view what these materials/parts are used in or on. Navigate to Inventory > Bills Of Material, select the Part, then click "Modify" to bring up the Edit Bill of Materials form and make changes.

Additionally, the security setting "Item Master -- View BOM" will need to be set to "Yes" in order to access this section of DEACOM.

Procedure

Viewing Formula BOM reports can be done through two areas of DEACOM: (1) Bills Of Material and (2) Item Master. For Option #1, navigate to Inventory > Bills Of Material and click "View BOM" for the desired Part. For Option #2, navigate to Inventory > Item Master, select the desired Part, click "View Part", then click "View BOM". Modifications to a formula are made via the "Edit BOM" button. It is in this section where the various formula reports are run. The BOM Types available to view are listed and described in the Edit Bill of Materials Buttons section of the Bills Of Material page. To run a report, select a BOM Type from the pick list and the report will automatically refresh the collection for the selected Part.

Users also have the option to print a copy of the Part's BOM by clicking the "Print BOM" button from the Edit Bill of Materials form.

Management reports can also be run for Formula Reporting in Inventory > Inventory Reporting by selecting either the "BOM Explosion Summary" or the "BOM Explosion Detail" reports. Information on these reports is available on the Inventory Reporting page.

FAQ & Additional Information

Why is the Quantity field on the Edit Bill of Materials form displaying a different number than the Quantity in View BOM?

On the Edit Bill of Materials form, the Quantity field (bo_quant) is the quantity of the BOM Unit that is needed to produce one unit of the manufactured item. In the View BOM form, the Quantity field (quanper) includes the scrap factor. This is the quantity that MRP and costing will use. The scrap factor can be on the line of the BOM and/or from the Item Master General 1 tab.

Can I run a "Where Used" report to show BOMs that use a selected Part?

"Where Used" reports can be found in Inventory > Item Master. Select the Part to run the report on and then click the "View BOM" button. Set the BOM Type to "Single Level Implosion" or "Indented Implosion" to view the formulations that use the selected Part.

Tips:

  • All Item Master user-defined fields and all pr_* fields are available for printing on the Bill of Materials report. The Item Master header "pr_user 1-4" fields are available to the Formula Report layout as l_user1-4.
  • The pr_unitwgt, pr_unitvol, pr_unitcub, and pr_unitlen fields are available on the Formula and BOM reports as l_unitwgt, l_unitvol, l_unitcub, and l_unitlen.
  • User fields for BOM lines are now available to the batch report. For use in classic, it must be appended with "cUSERBOM". In web versions, the field for the user field is sufficient.
  • Document Groups are available for Formulas. If a Formula Type Document Group exists, it will appear in the report pick list on the Copies to Print form. Additional information on using Document Groups is available via Maintaining Document Groups.
  • Beginning in version 16.02.126 the "Print" button has been added to the Bills of Material report. When clicked, the Copies to Print form is displayed and the Selection field defaults to "One" representing the selecting record in the report. Users have the option to change the selection to "All" in order to print all records/lines on the report.
